Wayanad is a rural district located in the southwestern Indian state of Kerala. Its eastern region is dominated by the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, a lush, forested area at high elevations that provides habitat for wildlife such as Asiatic elephants, tigers, leopards, and egrets. To the south, the Ambukuthi Hills are home to the Edakkal Caves, which feature ancient petroglyphs dating back to the Neolithic era.
